STARVING ARTISTS GET OVER HERE AND WATCH THIS VIDEO!:www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWXYoD…

It's really relevant to me right now, because suddenly people have been asking me about my canvases and cut outs... like people I know. I think it's because I posted this picture on my facebook. (which I hardly ever do because I'm like invisible with my friends and family when it comes to my art.)

How it looks in my room BTW: ceshira.tumblr.com/post/408915…

And what the guy says in the video is true. People expect you to do free work because "Hell, it will only take you a few minutes."

Well no it doesn't. For one thing, I take my sweet ass time because I worry that if it looks bad, I'll see how limited my abilities really are. AND THEN MY FAMILY WILL CRITICIZE ME SAYING "SHE QUIT BEING A NURSE FOR THIS? PSSSHHHH" (I have some issues with family's judge-y eyes.) So yes, I think the emotional stress I would have to be put through is worth something right?
I worked on my drawing abilities for years now (that sounds so weird of me to say since I'm young and have only taken an Art 1 class in high school xD), and it should rewarded....

I swear I'll stop with the rant now.

Ok ok I've calmed down now. Not all of my family is like that. One is offering to pay me for a portrait. yay!

For my final thoughts, I want to thank all of you who support me, and commission me, comment me, and WELL HELL JUST FOR BEING HERE WITH ME.

I know I'm a sap, but I really do appreciate it you guys.

I'm so happy that I cleaned up my inbox and answered everyone too xD

Ugh, I know what that feels like - the invisible thing. However, at least you have a ton of people checking out your art and admiring it. I still have yet to really get any attention or commissions, even requests. This is a great video, though! I saw this video on facebook somewhere recently, but I didn't watch it (and something told me I should). So, thank you Ceshira!

It's important to take pride in one's sense of art. Some artists can make a sketch in 5 mins, some may take 5 hrs. But in the end, it has to reflect the artist. Javonne tells me all the time "I wouldn't charge for my work if I didn't need the money". And he's right, the concept of exchange is relevant of the society. And unfortunately, money influences our society. I believe all artists, and in fact all societal contributors, who truly value their work, never really care to charge money for it. It's the art or contribution itself that makes the person feel "complete". From Mozart, to Newton, from Beethoven to Da Vinci, from T. Townsen Brown to Michael Faraday, and From Nikola Tesla to A. Einstein. Art is what fulfills the Artist. Money is simply the byproduct of the culture.

Keep doing what you're doing Ceshira!

SEEE THAT'S THE SAME WITH ME! I feel sometimes like "Oh hey, maybe I shouldn't charge much, I mean. Who am I to do that?"
And then when I do it, I realize "DAMNIT THIS IS TAKING UP TIME."
... then I feel a bit better. but still. My brothers still can't believe I'm commissioning either xD
I know what you mean about FB. That's why I avoid posting art there too... But I did post those things on my wall though xD
AND YOU GO AHEAD AND RANT IT'S OK DUDE I DO THE SAME THING!

I totally agree! I only draw for free when it's for my close friends or my close family members. BTW you drew all of my favorite cartoons from cartoon network!!!!!! :glomp: And I love that Naga smiles!!!!

I take a lot my time than I should, even for myself, on drawings cause I know if it's not perfect or if I mess up i'll rip it to shreds and give up, lol. But it doesn't help i'm a perfectionist.. ^^; And you're so welcome!!!

YES ONLY DRAW FOR THOSE KIND OF SITUATIONS!

Oh thank you so much! And yes, I feel many people deal with that issue of 'perfectionist'. I swear I'm borderline on that matter xD.

They care... I mean they like it. It's just that they don't think it's a profession I guess. Like the younger generation can kind of understand me. But most probably think I'm taking the easy way out. That I'm just all talk. :/

BUT YES I WILL FOLLOW MY DREAMS!

Your family must have something lodged deep in their collective something-or-others because YOUR ART IS FANTASTIC AND NEEDS TO BE SUPPORTED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, FINANCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY! Sure, money is important and art won't get you much, but what's the point in getting a better paying job that you despise? Hopefully you'll find a better paying job that you can enjoy and won't take away from your art.

I really hope everything works out for you, Ceshira. So rock on, sistah!

No, the like my art, it's just. They think it's a waste. That it's not a real profession. Especially when I got out of nursing they starting with that.

BUT THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I WILL TRY ALSDFKJASLDFJASLDKFJ AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HOPE TOO!

I understand the judging family. I went to cosmetology school and absolutely hated it. So now I'm just a sterotypical loser artist living with my mother who is to lazy to work in a salon. You're so talented and you seem like a nice person. I wish you the best! :iconbrohugplz:

amen hell I'm just starting to try and get into the art field and it takes forever for me to create anything that i'm satisfied with and anybody like you that creates amazing art should always be paid and respected for what they do since its your livelihood, or hell even if its a hobby you've spent years honing that skill into what it is today it shouldn't be though of as something that should just be given away even if you can make a quick sketch in a couple minutes.
