Last year this time, I was sitting somewhere around 1k watchers and I definitely wasn't thinking I'd be where I am right now--more than 24k have clicked that +watch button (I owe a lot of Annie Mei images!) and I honestly cannot tell you how much your support means to me.
When the New Year's came around, I gave myself a bit of an ultimatum for my resolution. It was one of two things: "Follow my dreams or accept reality." Accepting reality would mean dropping the things that I love to do. Get a "real" job. And take care of business. I may be really realistic but I'm a stubborn ol' dream chaser. Reality?? Hm... yes. Remember to take a break from all the work you have and do something you love to relax. Something that makes you feel peppy and cheery. For me that's working on MLP OCs. They're so naturally happy that it rubs off on me

I also work on Slade related images, since that's my biggest fandom and I could never say "... *grooooaaaan* .... not another SLADE image to draw..! WHY man-?!?"

I want to get my thoughts on this out there. Let me start off with personal experience. All my life I've played videogames from all genres, singleplayer and multiplayer, online or offline. I enjoy them all and think of each as a work of art by its creator and fans that play it. It makes sense that I have preferences as to what I like best but it also makes sense I have some I don't prefer, which doesn't matter because as long as there are people who like it I think of it as highly as the others.

It's really relevant to me right now, because suddenly people have been asking me about my canvases and cut outs... like people I know. I think it's because I posted this picture on my facebook. (which I hardly ever do because I'm like invisible with my friends and family when it comes to my art.)

And what the guy says in the video is true. People expect you to do free work because "Hell, it will only take you a few minutes."

Well no it doesn't. For one thing, I take my sweet ass time because I worry that if it looks bad, I'll see how limited my abilities really are. AND THEN MY FAMILY WILL CRITICIZE ME SAYING "SHE QUIT BEING A NURSE FOR THIS? PSSSHHHH" (I have some issues with family's judge-y eyes.) So yes, I think the emotional stress I would have to be put through is worth something right?
I worked on my drawing abilities for years now (that sounds so weird of me to say since I'm young and have only taken an Art 1 class in high school xD), and it should rewarded....

I swear I'll stop with the rant now.

Ok ok I've calmed down now. Not all of my family is like that. One is offering to pay me for a portrait. yay!

For my final thoughts, I want to thank all of you who support me, and commission me, comment me, and WELL HELL JUST FOR BEING HERE WITH ME.

I know I'm a sap, but I really do appreciate it you guys.

Ugh, I know what that feels like - the invisible thing. However, at least you have a ton of people checking out your art and admiring it. I still have yet to really get any attention or commissions, even requests. This is a great video, though! I saw this video on facebook somewhere recently, but I didn't watch it (and something told me I should). So, thank you Ceshira!

It's important to take pride in one's sense of art. Some artists can make a sketch in 5 mins, some may take 5 hrs. But in the end, it has to reflect the artist. Javonne tells me all the time "I wouldn't charge for my work if I didn't need the money". And he's right, the concept of exchange is relevant of the society. And unfortunately, money influences our society. I believe all artists, and in fact all societal contributors, who truly value their work, never really care to charge money for it. It's the art or contribution itself that makes the person feel "complete". From Mozart, to Newton, from Beethoven to Da Vinci, from T. Townsen Brown to Michael Faraday, and From Nikola Tesla to A. Einstein. Art is what fulfills the Artist. Money is simply the byproduct of the culture.
